Tickets
You must show your invitation at the registration desk. Individual tickets for Graduands and their Guests will be emailed in advance.
Guest Tickets
Guest tickets are transferrable, so you can give your guest tickets already purchased to another family member or friend.
If you are an overseas student and require a visa to enter the UK, or if you intend to invite guests from overseas who will need a visa to enter the UK, you will first need to ensure that you have registered your attendance and booked tickets for your guest(s).
You may need to complete the registration steps and request for the visa invitation for yourself and the guest(s). Please note we cannot process the visa letter request form unless you have completed your online registration and paid for your guest tickets and fully completed the request form (Step 4).
We aim to send the letter out within 10 working days of the request form being received but please note this may be delayed during our busier periods.
Note: Please allow plenty of time for your visa request to be dealt with by the High Commission or British Embassy as in some cases it can take several weeks to process a visa application. We recommend you request this letter as soon as possible but please note we cannot guarantee the turnaround time of the High Commission or British Embassy. MCC is not responsible for ensuring that your visas are sorted out in time for you and your guests to attend your graduation ceremony as this responsibility is with the graduating student.
Please note that the information below is regarding the 18th March 2024 graduation.
The below table outlines the key deadlines that should familiarise yourself and ensure you meet. Additional information on each area is available across the graduation website pages.

Early bird – Booking fee | To be paid by 31st January 2024 |
Regular prices | Full payment for regular registrations must be received by the 20th of February 2024 |

Please ensure you register your attendance first and then order your gown with your appropriate size(s) by submitting the Request form. Gown hiring is free for all graduates only.
Deadline: Please hire your gown by 12 noon 20th February 2024.
In order to attend your graduation ceremony, you must wear the appropriate academic dress. Your gown consists of a robe, hood and mortarboard (collectively we refer to as the gown). You cannot attend graduation without wearing your gown.
Gowns and hats are supplied by the Magna Carta College; gowns shall be available at the location2 hours before the event start time. Collection will take place as part of the registration process.
Collecting your gown:
Collect your gown and hat from Magna Carta College staff once you have registered for the ceremony on arrival. Please make sure that you have signed the check-in form and receive the set (gown).
Returning your gown:
Gowns must be returned before the closing time on graduation day (18th March 2024). Please make sure that you return your gown before leaving the Graduation Hall. Make sure that you have checked-out before leaving the hall.
Seating
Graduands will be informed of their seat location on the day of graduation at registration. Guest seating is not seat specific and therefore guests can sit where they wish in any of the allocated seating. Children attending as guests must be accompanied by an adult guest at all times. Graduands and guests are not seated together.
You must be registered, gowned and seated in the graduation Hall half an hour before your ceremony is due to start so that MCC staff can explain the ceremony proceedings to you. We recommend that you arrive two hours before the start of your ceremony as Registration and gowning can become extremely busy.
You must settle any outstanding payments due (such as tuition fees) with Magna Carta College before you can attend graduation.
Suiting (Sub Fusc)
This is a formal event and we ask that you please dress appropriately and smartly for the occasion. However, there is no formal dress code beyond the requirement for the above detailed academic dress. It is advisable to wear suitable footwear as there is a short walk to the theatre from the campus and you may have to negotiate steps up to and down from the stage. Hair grips and safety pins are often required so if you think you will need them please bring them with you.
Military uniform or national dress can be worn by graduating students as long as the academic robe, hood and mortarboard are able to be worn with it.
Students are requested to wear sub fusc, which means the academic dress that should be worn under your gown when you graduate and includes the following:
A collared plain white blouse or shirt (collars are essential).
- A dark suit with dark socks or Dark trousers with dark socks
- A dark skirt (the recommendation is for it to be at or around the knee) with dark tights or stockings
Black shoes
- A black ribbon, or a black/white bow tie or straight black long tie
- A dark coat/jacket if desired (to be worn underneath the gown)
Helpful tips
It is helpful to wear a buttoned blouse or shirt. This will make it easier to attach the hood of your gown to your clothing. It may also be helpful to bring safety pins to ensure the hood stays in place, as well as hair grips if you have long hair.
You will not be able to carry any personal belongings with you during the ceremony, so please make sure that your handbags and other items are kept in a secure location.
Please be aware that the MCC retains the right to refuse you entrance to the ceremony if it is considered you are inappropriately dressed.
Graduates will have the opportunity to attend a professional photography session with their families. These will be provided on a first come, first served basis at the following times.
09:30-11:30 before the graduation ceremony
14:30- 17:00 after the graduation ceremony
Each graduate will receive 3 Professional Digital Photos including:
- Award Photo
- Individual Photo
- Family Photo
The photos will be professionally edited and sent to graduates by email within 14 days from the graduation date.
Portable wooden frames will be available for use when posing for photographs.
The graduation ceremonies are regarded as public events. The MCC will be taking photographs throughout the ceremonies for use in future publications on the College’s website and for marketing materials. We may also film the ceremony for live streaming and/or viewing on a social media platform such as You Tube after the event. By purchasing any ticket and in attending the ceremony, you are agreeing to be photographed and filmed.
After your graduation ceremony, everyone with a valid ticket is invited to an informal celebration as part of your graduation. Located in the Graduation Hospitality Zone; you will find refreshments to enjoy whilst you celebrate your success. Entry to this area is included with all tickets. You must have a ticket to gain entry and you cannot purchase a ticket just for this area.
Note: Special dietary requirement must be included during the registration and be shared with MCC Graduation team 2 weeks prior to the event.
Original certificates and transcripts will not be handed out at the graduation ceremony. All certificates will be delivered through the postal service.
If you (graduand) or your guests have any special access requirements e.g. sitting in a wheelchair, walking difficulties, sight or hearing considerations, please provide this information when you register to attend your ceremony. In response to the information provided, the graduation team may contact you to discuss how we can best support you and your guests. When booking tickets online, you will be asked if your guests have any access requirements to enable us to provide appropriate seats. If your guest is in a wheelchair, please be sure to order a wheelchair ticket. Please note that a wheelchair ticket is a space for a wheelchair and there is no seat alternative.
Please note during the ceremony you (the graduand) will cross the stage in the Swan Theatre and shake hands with those conferring the awards. You may be required to go up 6 steps and then down 6 steps on the other side of the stage. Both sets of steps have a handrail on the right side. Alternative access to the stage can be arranged for you if required, so please include a brief description of your requirements when registering for the event.
Graduands will be seated together and will be presented on stage alongside graduands from the same cohort. If you arrive late and we are still able to include you, you will be allocated a different seat to the one on your ticket. You will still be presented on stage but at a later point to the rest of your cohort. If you arrive too late or at the end of the ceremony, you will be unable to be presented on stage.
Student names and student IDs will be made available to the designated gown list or display board for seat allocation. Any data relating to special access that you share with us to help plan the day is kept in the strictest confidence.
In addition, student names and the course title (including those graduating in absentia) are published in the graduation programme and may be on graduation merchandise, unless you have told us at the time of registration that you do not wish for your details to be listed.
